Doesnt android prompt you during install to allow the app to see your user info? Same reason farmtown and all the other crappy apps do, they want to know your location, name and email to target you with their spamvertising and here you are on a forum that is loaded with the same spamvertising...

Not so much disturbing, probably 99.9% of all software will leave configs, they often have an option to remove the app and delete all data. Reason? Most of the time people remove apps then reinstall them and having the data already there means it just carries on working.

My younger brother lives in NSW he's only recently got 1Mb ADSL in his town, was on USB 3G for years.. He has to plan skype chats a month in advance to make sure he has enough internet saved up lol

Especially in the UK where we are proud to have the most expensive and worse internet ;)

These kinds of things are lame, I see issues all the time as a software developer when people add these things to their sites and other things break, anyway like you say takes milliseconds to add a rule for it. I did it using tampermonkey .. got rid of the ugly sidebar at the same time.
