10% duties on all Chinese goods on 2/1

I strongly suspect that a $1000 DJI drone costs DJI closer to $250 than $700, where it would only be a $25 tariff at 10% of their cost. Even far easier to absorb when their profits are so high. That's why DJI stopped repairing drones, and just provides a repair estimate, and sends you a brand new drone when you pay the very reasonable repair bill! The old one just goes in the trash. Not worth repairing when their mark up is 300%!
Yeah I was gonna say I didn’t think their profit margin was that low. I bet they’re similar to Apple in that respect. Read somewhere Apples’ iPhone margins are something like 75% or 300% mark up

The previous poster made this clear - many of us buy accessories from AliExpress, Temu, and the like, often at 1/2 the price of the exact same item on Amazon or eBay
Thanks! The previous poster threw me off when I thought they said DJI "sure as heck doesn't" ship via USPS anymore. This will definitely impact shippers who have historically solely relied on USPS to handle packages once they enter the US.

I think this speaks to the retaliatory nature of the whole tariff debacle. Apparently nothing was learn from the soy bean tariffs of 2018. It hurt farmers badly and the Govt. spent millions in subsidies (reparations really). These current tariffs are hardly well thought out with the potential to hurt a lot of people much more than ever considered. The potential disruption of our dji toys is a very tiny tip of the iceberg. Victory may be declared, hooray for our side and it's business as usual, new tariffs same as the old tariffs so basically no new tariffs. All theater – the scorpion sticks it to the alligator. If not, I got mine let them fly frisbees. :D

The challenge with grouping all tariff initiatives together is that it's not so straightforward. It's more like a game of chess, where we can't see every move happening behind the scenes. We can either rely on "experts" and historians to interpret the strategies or place our trust in the belief that there's a plan aimed at improving both the US and the world as a whole.

US Postal Service flip-flops on Hong Kong-China packages, lifting a ban imposed a day earlier

HONG KONG — The U.S. Postal Service is reversing course a day after placing a ban on all inbound packages from China and Hong Kong.

The post office had announced Tuesday that it would no longer accept parcels from the China and Hong Kong after the U.S. imposed an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods and ended a customs exception that allowed small value parcels to enter the U.S. without paying tax.

The Postal Service reversed course Wednesday but gave no reason. It said it would work with Customs and Border Protection to implement a collection process for the new China tariffs to avoid delivery disruptions.

nice, can't wait to try on the new government process complete with no delivery disruptions. 🤣

I agree but there's still an air of chaos in these. The USPS 'embargo' on products from CN now lifted, didn't seem to come about via Executive Order. It may have happened but I'm thinking it was DeJoy chiming in. Had it come from the WH, I'm sure it would have affected DHL, FedEX, UPS, and just about any shipper.

And any shipper bringing products into the country still has to pass through CBP so if there is an order to ban, only what has already been cleared will be available.

I haven't checked today to see where the US and CN stand in the latest rounds of whose is bigger, though there have been statements made.

None of this addresses the possibility of a ban on dji gear, specifically. That's another shoe that may be waiting...

And what's with dji dropping geofencing after the plane/drone collision?

But lunch calls. A man's got to have his priorities.

Are there any other drone manufacturers voluntary taking on this police work? If not, DJI is likely following suit.

"Temu is promoting items shipped from U.S. warehouses"

And it looks like they ship from US warehouses too. Problem solved I guess.

That'll please my wife 🤣

Gotta say, though, $2.74 for those furry-wrist gloves vs. $2.49 just doesn't move the outrage meter much 🤣🤣

More than half of what Temu ships to me comes from Local. it's either that or I have been simply overlooking buying the goods that come directly from China since they take a little longer. Unfortunately Temu won't be able to dodge a bullet forever since stuff might ship from Local but they weren't made there so somehow they'll get affected in the long run. I recently noticed, they will give you a further discount (somewhere between $2 to $7) if you choose China instead of Local and add 9 -23 days to your delivery. Not a bad deal if you just don't need it right away, for example a carry case for the DJI Power 500 normally goes for $70 and the Temu variety is $26 and I don't need that case right away. With a good cadence going, ordering stream of goods, I've had something coming in every week so you really don't notice the delay.

Only if the other country retaliates. This is the reason tariffs are so harmful, right?

Well, retaliation is what these tariffs are all about. Canada, the EU, and others have had tariffs against the US my entire life for various goods and industries being "protected", and the US out of free trade principle and puritism has just looked the other way.

Apparently that's changing.

Can't have "free trade" unless everyone allows it to be so, chips falling where they may.

Are you asking me or telling me, asking and answering your own question.

Well, retaliation is what these tariffs are all about.

Which, in the context of the tariffs in question, is what I said. Whether proposed, enacted, or walked back, these particular tariffs are retaliatory in nature and that was pretty much spelled out by the proposer.

My main concern is will these benefits us, the consumers, whom these are purported to help. Already some of them have been walked back or put on hold. I think the sabres are rattled without thought of consequence.

It wouldn't be good business to promote items shipped from US warehouses if they didn't ship them from US warehouses.

The promotion makes sense given the threat of retaliatory tariffs, which are just about any tariffs Trump imposed, because he's that kind of guy. Selling stuff in local stock instead of importing for an order makes for a happy customer.

I don't know about that type of promoting, but other foreign merchants/distributors have similar holdings.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Are you suggesting that I or someone above doubts that Temu actually ships from US warehouses?

This week the Matrice 4T (and guess other things too, but I was only aware of that price) went up on the official DJI store from 6899 € to 7638 € for no apparent reason, that's a 10.71% (739 €) increase.
