Can someone post a link to a few DNG samples from the 28mm camera, please. Taken in both 100 and 25 MP modes and in 4:3 full frame ratio. Preferably shots of a daytime citiscape.

I found some here:

btw Although the main camera has a 4/3 sensor, the images that it produces have a 3:2 aspect ratio, not 4:3.
Thanks for the link. 3:2 ratio?? This is not good. The 28mm is already a drawback for me and now 3:2 ratio which crops top and bottom of the frame and further narrows the vertical field of view. Why would they do that? Maybe the extreme corners of the 28mm lens are not sharp enough?? For architectural shooters the full 4:3 ratio would at least capture more vertically, given the already narrower field of view from the 28mm lens, and allow us to crop the sky to get the desired perspective of the building.

It looks like his 28 cam is de-centered, soft to the right. Bummer about the 10 degree tilt limit on vertical mode, makes sense given the gimbal design.

Glad to see these, less of an improvement from the Mavic 3 Pro than I would have thought...

Is that a problem when you are shooting a full frame SLR?

That's a question for the technical people at DJI, but my guess is there's a good reason for it.
It is not a problem because FF DSLR cameras have 3:2 ratio sensor to start with. I would have thought that having full sensor area available for taking photos is a no brainer and not too much to ask for. No doubt the technical people at DJI had a good reason for the 3:2 crop-in forcing on users and not giving them full sensor area available 😉. But that decision makes this drone even less appealing to me.

I only downloaded the first photo of the castle with few churches around, the 25MP version. I personally do not see ANY improvement in IQ compared to my M3P photos. If anything I see degradation. The microdetails look worse.Tree foliage has the same strange look like the A3S photos. And the color bleeds through sharp edges of buildings creating this weird effect which looks like a nasty CA, exactly as is the case with the A3S photos. To get to the level of sharpness I am getting from my good old M3P I need to significantly increase the USM values in Lr but then the details look kind of weird and unnatural.

My summary of M4P
The 28mm lens, the 3:2 forced crop factor and now the above described impression from processing the DNG 25MP image......
I have to admit that I was very tempted but it increasingly looks like that I am sticking with my good old M3P for foreseeable future. It might well be the last drone from DJI with not QB sensor and to be honest I am not impressed at all when looking at what is coming out of these QB sensors. They might be great for shooting video but for photography not so.
Thanks for posting the link to the samples, much appreciated. By doing so you have saved me $$$😀

I have the Creator Combo and a spare battery on pre-order order and depending how things go with that and if the cameras are properly centered, the top speed and longer flight time alone could still be reason enough to keep it.

I am often hauling my drones into really remote areas and then have to fly in sport mode to my subjects to photograph them so longer flight times with faster to and from are pretty good considerations for what I need it to do.

In some ways, it's good it is a pre-order that way I can continue to read reports like this.

There are obvious benefits this new M4P brings but for me most of them are not important for my work. The flight time of M3P is plenty enough, the spinning gimbal is a "one-trick pony" IMHO and all the spinning shots flooding YT atm will wear out pretty quickly. The vertical video is nice but if these videos are intended mostly for instagram who needs 6K for that?? I have done many by simply cropping in post. Anyway, these are just a few of my thoughts

Billie Kyle has shared loads of sample RAW files in his Youtube review, here's the download link: DJI Mavic 4 Pro Example Files — Billy Kyle

For some reason it downloads super slow for me (now saying 3 days[!!!] to complete), so haven't been able to have a look yet. Will definitely be interesting to see what amount of resolution increase the highres mode brings and does it still suffer from similar artefacts as with the smaller sensor on earlier models with lowres/highres-toggle.

The long, slow download is because he has a bunch of the all-I video files that are up to 9GB.
You can just select the .dng files to see the stills and leave the .mp4 video files.

Can someone shed some light on the main camera mystery? I can not get my head around it. According to the specs it has M43 size 100MP sensor. I assume it is the QB type so basically a true 25MP, right? But the camera shoots in 3:2 ratio photos and the photo I downloaded and played with was the 25MP version. When I processed it in Lr the photo is 6144 x 4096px in size which is indeed 25MP. So how many active pixels has the 4:3 sensor and we have no access to all of them?? It surely must have more then 100MP otherwise the math does not add up.

The sensor is 3:2 not 4:3 which is confirmed by the image dimensions you've posted. The 4/3 in the name of the sensor refers to the size not the aspect ratio so although most four thirds sensors have had the 4:3 aspect ratio, they don't have to and Panasonic have released oversized versions which offer 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9 aspect ratios with the same diagonal measurement.

I see!! But this is quite an important piece of info which should have been clearly stated in the spec sheet, IMHO. Anyway, now we all know😀

It was quite a surprise to me when I saw an article on here mentioning the sensor was 3:2 and I wondered if it was an error since the other larger sensors are all 3:2 but the sensor clearly is 3:2

To someone like myself for whom the 28mm is already a bit too narrow and would have much preferred 24mm this is crucial piece of info. To me this is a serious omission in the spec sheet because the vertical field of view of this camera is by 3:2 ratio sensor further reduced when taking landscape (horizontal) format photos. Anyway, I am glad we have firmly established this by now😀. Now we have a drone with 2 cameras shooting photos with 4:3 ratio and one camera with 3:2 ratio. Go figure..
