Today I tried for the first time to do some still panos with the new (to me) Mavic 3 Pro.
  1. Vertical pano - 3 shots
  2. Wide angle pano - 9 shots
  3. Horizontal pano ..... 21 shots?!?! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot...
Anyone knows what's going on and how to fix it?

21 shots seems to be normal. 7 columns of 3 shots each. Center column with three columns to each side to cover 180 degrees if memory serves me. Give Panovolo (member of forum) a free try. It has worked well for me and it will produce a DNG file -if you shot your original pano in DNG. I have a good experience cropping the center of the 21 file pano to get what I want.

21 images is correct for a 180 degree panorama which is three rows of seven images as mentioned above so it gives quite a wide field of view. While I find the 180 shot is usually too wide to use on its own I find it the most useful mode for panoramas since it gives a lot of flexibility for choosing a suitable crop afterwards.

If you just want normal single row horizontal panos, I just shoot manually with about half a frame overlap and stitch in Lightroom Classic. Does a great job with no stitching errors, and a choice of geometry. Most editing apps will do this.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Yes, I was just looking for a quick 3-shot horizontal pano option. As noted by @BingBong above I can do that manually. I do my own pano stitching anyway.

The 21 shots is a) just too many files to deal with and b) takes too long for the files to be streamed to the microSD.
