4K video

Hi all when i extract my sd card from my mavic to slide into a Apple Card reader and plug into my iPad Air 2 it wont import 4K footage tries but end up with a red exclamation mark in the selected video fi;le 2k ias fine my i phone 7+ imports 4K fine is there any way to import on to my iPad I’m very frustrated not to much of a tech head but surely something is amiss help

a 4k video uses a lot of space have you got plenty of memory space left in cache on your ipad ,or it could be that it is not able to handle a 4k file
