My DJI Go 4 app would not work and I was trying to figure out why....
I had not updated my firmware since 2015... After updating everything my DJI Go 4 app finally works with Galaxy S10 Plus and drone..
Someone told me you really didn't need to update a while back....
Is it best to update when updates are available? Or can you get my without updating?

I usually wait a week or 2 after a new firmware is released to make sure there are no bugs, but I always stay up-to-date.

Not me I do it as soon as it comes out.
Im goofy like that ?

You'll see many times on the DJI Forum where the moderators have had to make available a special beta version of the firmware to allow people who haven't upgraded a long time to upgrade.
DJI Firmware upgrades are pretty much sequential so you can't miss/jump a whole heap of them without casing some issues.

Firmware upgrades are usually issued in response to bug fixes and for adding new features/functions, so it probably recommended that you do them as they are released, to keep in step with the app development.

It’s fair to say if you don’t plan to upgrade firmware on your drone then don’t update DJIGO4. Eventually you will get in a similar situation like the OP.
With Android you can roll back apps with iOS you can’t. So if you plan to staying a few levels back then set your iOS device to NOT allow auto updates otherwise GO4 will update as soon as a new version is released.

I usually wait for the rage over the new version to subside. Then, if it seems to be working, I go for it.

Same here, never updated anything in almost 3.5 years.
Still on the original flash for the AC (.400), and DJI go app (4.0.4?),
and all works fine...

After an auto update hosed my video feed I had to roll back to the earlier version, turn off auto update, and have been running on the original versions for 3 years and counting.

For any software update that is not forced on me I always wait for the new bugs to be worked out, see what old bugs have been fixed, check what new features are added, and see what features may have been removed before updating.

It is always bet to update Firmware when it comes out. ALSO, only the battery in the bird when you update is updated as well. You will get a message from your bird to update another battery in install. That will be done by the drone itself. These are smart batteries and need to stay current as well.

There is no rule that "you have to upgrade".
IF your setup is working fine, as expected,
leave it alone unless the "update" has a "feature" you think you need..
Then I would wait until it has been fleshed out an see what others are seeing.
Not every update goes smoothly, and sometimes it will install "features" that you did not expect or want.....
