7 tips to avoid the wrath of the FAA.

Ok, so before the fur flies...Judges are and have been making up law although its beyond their jurisdiction. Police do not have the laws regarding what FAA or others regulate and If they do all they are concerned with is making the Karen's happy.
Well there is a difference between the actual law, interpretation, and enforcement. The problem does come up that a police officer (with a gun) is always right when in a confrontation. Thus you can try to politely explain the actual regulations but most of them have a superiority complex and it is a losing battle. So it is best to just pack up and say "thank you, yes sir". If you do stand up for your rights you can then be in a legal battle and that also is a difficult thing since the government has all of the resources and most of us cannot afford to fight.

One thing that still bothers me is how Amazon was planning to deliver packages by drone. I'm a fairly tolerant person but that effort I think crosses the line. I dont know how they planned doing it but looking up at thousands of drones filling the sky bothers even me.
I am all about technology and progress. Like it or not the skies will become busier over time. If you ever watched the old cartoon show called The Jetsons, I am sure we will one day have a world where people "drive" their personal flying vehicles.

As long as it is safe and organized, I have no problem with these drone deliveries. I order so much stuff from Amazon now and look forward to that first drone delivery. So cool !

So are you looking forward to them delivering you a drone or delivering to you with a drone? Or maybe delivering you a drone with a drone...

I see what you're saying there and did not think of that prior to you bringing it up. I guess there is the question to what degree one is "marketing" or "selling".

I believe the rules on the forums here do allow you to add a website link in your signature, as long as you are not making posts to actively sell your products. So perhaps your first statement was a bit inaccurate? It was not the signature that required you to get a vendor account but rather posts to sell your wares. Please correct me if I am wrong there.

However I do definitely see how that relates to the video that was posted by Russ (51 Drones). If he had listed the 7 points simply in a text posting, then it is purely informational and no marketing. However the video is definitely marketing his services as it has his company intro and his company logo clearly in the background at all times. I think you have a very valid point.
I was a member before I started hawking my wares, but the signature thing was specifically mentioned to me, and removed from all previous posts, when I was invited to become an approved Vendor, which was after I developed my first mount for the MA2 and iPad.

Which is to say, I pay a premium like some of you do, but it includes the ability to promote my stuff from time to time and keep a link in my signature. :D

A wise dude once said, cant recall his name, “he who is without sin cast the first stone” paraphrasing here...I don’t really think this stuff should be aired in public it gives potential new members something to think on. I have always preferred constructive criticism with my employees.

I don't want to get into who is right or wrong with the posts that are critical of Russ's post, for a couple of reasons.

First, I am not fully aware of policies on this forum that allow or restrict information that might be seen as being of a commercial nature. I suspect that there are policies that discourage the commercialization of posts in order to foster free exchange of information on the forum.

When I read the post, I thought that it was intended to pass on helpful information that all drone pilots should heed in order to stay on the right side of the law. Nothing more.

On the other hand, I assume that Russ, like others that post here, has an interest to monetize his business, and others that also have commercial interests may have seen the post as a violation of the forum rules.

There are always at least 2 sides to every dispute. And then there are the facts.

For clarity, what rules were broken, and how can that be avoided going forward?

Let's find a positive spin here...!

If it were me flying I WOULD NOT be doing it without permission from the property owner. Doesn't seem neighborly to just go on someone elses place and go flying or anything else for that matter!!
Sounds like trespassing to me.
It's not trespassing from the easement, which is what we are discussing. I would never fly from someone's property without permission.

Right of way, yes as that's public property. Easement can be trespassing as that's private property but with allowances, usually for utilities.

Yes an easement can be/is trespassing, did some checking . The easement is there for the use of the people the easement was given to, in the case of what we are talking about, the road dept/utilities. It is not public ground to be used by anyone that wants to, there normally is a provision for temporary use for motorists that break down or whatever.

Property in front of a house is usually a right of way though, especially areas without sidewalks.

Hence signs often found along roadways "no parking on right of way". I haven't seen any say "no parking on easement".

I'm sure different states and or counties differ. Here I own to the middle of the road and the county has a roadway easement 45 feet to either side of the centerline.
And no sidewalks for miles!

The easement reminded me of a horrible event that happened in S Lake Tahoe back in the 1970’s. A man who owned some property along a rural paved road decided he would do something about people using part of his property as a short cut it was nothing more than a dirt road used for years by some locals. this guy got mad and strung a wire cable tight across the road suspended about four feet above the road. The road had been used over twenty years by locals until he purchased it. Unfortunately no one told the guy who owned the motorcycle.

Yeah, that's not a real good option, I have strung a cable across a road/path I didn't want people using But I also put a log across same road and ran that cable through a piece of PVC so it was easy to see.

Great information. Where can I get a copy of the laminated form you use in case you are approached?
