7x camera is so freaking good on this drone

The DJI forum moderators have mentioned this (no upgrades….despite the obvious as you stated) a few times on their site.
Unfortunately they are about the last place you'll get accurate ingormation about drones.
I've never seen any indication that they have ever flown a drone.

Not sure where you got this idea? From DJI Paladin today -
Hi there. Thank you for bringing this inquiry to us. Are you referring to the telephoto camera of the DJI Mavic 3 Pro and DJI Mavic 3 drone? If yes, the two cameras are different. The Mavic 3 Pro telephoto camera has a 1/2 inch CMOS sensor with an aperture of f3.4 and 7x optical zoom. It can take 12MP photos and 4K 60fps videos. The equivalent focal length is 166 mm and the camera can shoot from 3 m to infinity. When in Explore mode, the camera can zoom at 28x. Hope this helps. Have a nice day ahead.

It is true that DJI employees have confirmed and stated several times that the 7x camera of the Pro is really the same as the regular Mavic 3. This is how they bring it out.

This is a quote from a DJI support person, called DJI Paladin. It shows their lack of knowledge.
There is no optical zoom in any of the lenses on the Mavic 3 Pro, or in any DJI consumer drone for that matter (execpt the discontinued Mavic 2 Zoom).

DJI Gamora a couple days ago……

Hi, McDego. Thank you for reaching out. The telephoto lens from the Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Pro has no differences. The same lenses were used with the Mavic 3 Pro drones. Also, there's no known issue with the telephoto lens of the Mavic 3 but in case you experience any issues, please don't hesitate to contact us. We'll be more than happy to assist you. Thank you for your support.

Gamora later admitted she/he was wrong, and appreciated to be corrected.
But the post clearly shows the lack of knowledge in the support team on the DJI forum.

Agreed and I’m still not convinced they are not some sort of automated response team of some kind..

Also impressive that it is sharp even with a shutter speed at 1/10th of a second. With such a focal length that indicates a very stable gimbal.
Where do you see the shutter speed?
