Active track

Let's just say that they are active during active track (if this is your question); nevertheless, if the drone flies sideways or backwards during the active tracking, this will render them useless, as they are oriented strictly towards the front of the Mavic.

Yea, that was my question. I apologize for the mistyped sentence. Can I choose which way I want the Mavic to follow me ?

Yes; you can, by choosing from the modes provided by the DJI GO app. Here's a good DJI video showing you what it can:

Do obstacle avoiding sensors work and active track?
Yes, but they are only able to see obstacles in the following detection range:

As shown in the video above, the Mavic is able to fly in all directions when using ActiveTrack. If not flying forward, you'll want to make sure your Mavic is high enough to clear all nearby obstacles (since it won't be able to see them).

If you want to follow a car in trace mode on a rural road setting for instance, should one leave the controller in the car or should you keep it with you back in the driveway?
I would assume you would also want to keep Mavic high enough to avoid trees anyway even in Trace mode, or would Trace fly automatically around or over trees in forward motion only?
