Hello all!
I need some advice in solving this issue.

I just recently purchased a used Air3s for around $675!! When buying it, I was told the drone had a gimbal issue: the gimbal overload and gimbal stuck warnings. When powering it on, the yaw motor never works; however, the pitch and yaw sometimes work and sometimes don't. I found that the yaw ribbon cable had a tiny cut in it and replaced it with a ribbon cable from Amazon. However, that did not solve my issue, and I still get the same error.

The drone flies just fine, and the camera feed works perfectly fine as well; however, I cannot get the gimbal motors to work correctly. I've tried recalibrating the gimbal; however, I cannot get past the 10% mark. I've also updated the drone to the latest firmware, and the issue still persists. When moving the gimbal motors by hand, I feel no grit and no resistance for any of them.

I sent it over to the drone replacement shop, and they are quoting me $750 to repair it with a 4-week lead time. I looked on eBay, and there are some sellers offering complete working gimbals for the Air 3s for around ~$400, with free returns, and other sellers selling working OEM Gimbal housing with the motors for around ~$300, as well as OEM yaw motor replacements and PTZ cable replacements for around $100 total. I could also purchase a PTZ cable tester like the one in the picture below

Is it possible to attempt to fix it by myself?
Would I need to re-flash the software if I replace the whole gimbal assembly?
I would say I am somewhat handy when it comes to working on electronics, so I think I would be able to complete the fix; however, I'm worried that the gimbal might be firmware locked to my specific drone or that I might need access to proprietary software.

What would be the best option for me to do?

It is possible to fix the gimbal issue and you are right, the gimbal needs to be reprogrammed by a special software.
You can send it to dji if you have a care plus pack . They will charge a service fee and give you a new or refurbished drone )
This is the easiest way to fix your drone .

If you want DIY
Then you must have the special software which calibrates the gimbal after replacement.

I found this guy on youtube .
He calibrates the gimbal online

Thank you for your response!

I also found the following video for the calibration:

Would this be what I am looking for if I want to do the calibration myself? Or do I need to contact a specialized technician that has access to even more special software?

Furthermore, if I were just to repair the gimbal motor(s) and not the full gimbal assembly, do I still need to use the special software?

I've also gone ahead and purchased the following tools to be able to diagnose the issues with the drone. Do you think I may end up needing anything else?
Motor Tester
Cable Tester

The software shown in video does not support new drones . As new drones do not create com ports , so you need to have special software for this .

it is very good to have motor and cable testing tool
