Is there any way to get true above ground level altitude in the Mavic pro? I know it shows altitude above launch point, but flying out over a cliff or up a canyon is different and we really need true AGL.

No.

The best data you're going to get is the VPS altitude when you're Mavic is within about 40 feet of the ground.

The mavic or app would need a database of ground level altitudes. GPS only provides altitude above sea level. Maybe on a future drone.

The math still seems simple. Known altitude at take off, sea level as a constant, and calculated AGL based on maps in database.
I do appreciate your answer, so how do we manage the 400 rule with no information about AGL (if the terrain varies)?

Hi. It can be found in the "DJI Assistant 2". ( Off cause, that is AFTER the flight... too quick a reply. )
