Amazon drone makes emergency landing in Arizona neighborhood

It would be nice BUT You can't keep it. You must do your best to contact the owner or the authorities. Some people think that if the Post office delivers something you didnt order to your address that they can keep the item. That's theft and the item must be returned or paid for. Now if they must access your property to get their lost drone, Well...there is nothing in the law that says they have free and unfettered access to trespass on your land.. You can even charge them a fee if you like. but it can't be ridiculous or a judge will throw it out.
I really wouldnt charge them I suppose, but it would be fun to make the Recovery team sit thru a "safety meeting" before they were allowed access to the property..Maybe even make them wear protective gear, like some chemical resistant animal costumes.maybe tie a balloon to ya so I can keep track of you. You know for Safety.
Storage fees come to mind if they don't come out right away. Would be really easy for Amazon to give you $$store credit for the inconvenience.

I bet Amazon Drones will be "trophies" for some.
Y'know how hunters like moose heads on the den wall? I've now got a mental image of some Mancunian chav sitting in his mum's council house with a big spliff and a range of delivery drone motherboards nailed to the wall over the gas fireplace... if you want to get the full picture, search out a copy of the British film: 'The Brothers Grimsby'... I promise you'll choke laughing.

The thing looked around for an open clear spot to set down and then I'm sure notified the base (Amazon) of it's location coordinates. So what's the problem? It sounds like it did exactly what it was supposed to in the event of a problem. It's obvious by the video that it didn't "crash". It simply set down there and tipped slightly to the side. Typical media trying to make something out of nothing.
I flew manned aircraft for 35 years and hated it when the press reported on aviation incidents, usually blowing everything out of proportion... kind of like this! 🤬

Remember the self driving Dominoes Vehicles they said were gonna revolutionize the way they Delivered? They tested those little buggies here in Bakersfield. They did end up feeding every person that figured out that tossing a 4x4 under it meant Free Pizza party!! they didnt last but a few months.

If there are kids kicking a ball around and it lands in your yard, are you legally obligated to give it back?
If it landed on my property they'd get it back, eventually. I wouldn't make it easy for them, though.
But that's just because I'm "bad".

I see several amazon vehicles on my cul de sac street every day. Nearly every house has a tree that would prevent delivery anywhere’s near a secure landing spot.
I can’t envision profitable drone deliveries.
I ain’t going to happen

I think your right! Its a "gimmick" at the moment, but I can't see how It could make any business sense at all. You can Fill a truck with packages! The Drone has to come all the way back for your neighbors stuff.
They are testing some around here but the Drones cant get anywhere near me. I have a hospital with a heliport down the street, and we are under the ILS for the airport that is 6 miles away.

Has anyone bothered to research this topic? Seems like nothing but assumptions here. Amazon is already using drones in certain parts of the country. Former co-worker in Texas has had a drone deliver items twice to his house. Cable drops the package down in his driveway immediately after Amazon notifies him that the drone has arrived.

As a business model, I think the drone deliveries probably come with a hefty delivery fee.
The time it takes to recharge them makes it unlikely to be a mainstream method of delivery.

There's a market for trafficless delivery, I'm sure.

With a weight limit of 5 lbs, there's a very limited potential.

Rural deliveries, Sure, pharmaceutical deliveries, stuff like that I can understand and envision, Fleets of Drones shuttling the latest model Ipad to everyones home...I don't see it, at least not until a bunch of stuff gets worked out. The town next to mine that surrounds the airport has thousands of people living there, Amazon will still have to maintain a fleet of vehicles to get packages too them, Why add a whole new dept. to the mix, especially one that is very limited (right now) on how much it can carry. it would seem more profitable to strap a Kid in a golf cart and turn him loose on the neighborhood.
