Antenna positioning

So I have a few questions.

What is the proper antenna positioning.

I see if ur flying above u you point them straight out.

I have seen people point them towards the drone like this guy

I have seen people point them straight up and down ( which I'm assuming the correct way since everyone with yagi or parabolic units use it.

But what's the correct way for best signal.

Yes, but post #2 *still* shows the antennas perpendicular to the drone when it is overhead.
The reason for this is that the antenna has a radiation pattern that's like a doughnut (with the antenna element sticking through the hole. There is very little radiated signal leaving parallel or along the axis of the antenna.
 
Antenna should be as parallel to the drone legs (antenna) as possible. This varies with the drone’s distance from you as well as height. If straight overhead or at distance point the flat of the antenna toward the drone.best transmission and reception occur through the “side” of antenna or drone legs.
