All the lights I've seen for the Mav / Air 3 class drones are terrible. They're either too weak or too heavy, or both. My Air 3 is as night blind as a granny with cataracts so I need to fix this. I've already replaced the top cover with a suprisingly well made detachable mount so I've got a lot of options. I've tried my cheapo flashlight on a go pro adapter already and it wasn't bright enough. It's actually quite hard to find a light source that is both powerful and lightweight, since good flashlights are almost always overbuilt in heavy aluminum. My options are stripping down a high lumen handheld light, fussing with a custom LED DIY chipset (meh, I'm lazy and I can't find the right heatsinks on my $20 project budget), or plopping down a C note for a genuine ali express LEP. Has anyone tried mounting an LEP to a drone before? I might have to try if no one else has yet. Another option would be to hack down a 30 watt LED headlight that already has a nice thermal package and lens but those have 12 v drivers and I would like to run it on an 18650 cell and a small constant current driver. Suggestions before I start cutting up flashlights?
