This is all with an LG G5 phone. I deleted the app and reloaded it, switched back to previous firmware, rebooted, etc... The only time it would work would be the initial run after loading the app.
I fixed the problem by buying a new Ipad. This is a work tool, so that was an option. I first tried an older Ipad 6 (or 5) and that IOS wouldn't load the app. That left me with the option of buying a new Ipad or putting the brick back in the box. Pretty crappy. DJI should provide actual support for Android or drop it altogether and advertise that they only support Apple. I don't like Apple.
