I would imagine most people such as myself fly paths and take pictures that are already available on Google Earth or Google. If China spied on me, they would find a lot of barn and train pictures lol.

I can’t get into details, but the Intel was credible. China’s goal is world dominance without firing a shot. Look into SOE - state owned entities, stealing Intellectual property, Fentanyl (synthetic opioid)!

Are we letting Apple, Samsung, Facebook, etc,etc,etc..do the same by using their products. The US is protecting its markets. Not to mention the hundreds of US, Russian, Chinese, etc., satellites orbiting the earth specially mapping and researching the planet in high definition. Most of our sensitive sites are NFZ areas.

I am not a conspiracy theorist or anything like that at all... Not trying to be a fearmonger either. I agree that if they want to spy on me flying around my area.... Well.... not much "Intel" for them to get.

However, think of the drones being used in the commercial/industrial setting. There may be industries out there using drones at Power grid (nuclear and non-nuclear) facilities, Oil/Fuel refineries, maybe even "Security" sensitive locations, etc. which could be useful info for China.

But if the allegations by the Military were that "Credible", why weren't DJI drones banned in the U.S. altogether?

For Joe the consumer this is really a mute point. Since virtually every app on your smartphone has access to your contacts, media and location we went down that rabbit hole more than a decade ago. Even Gas Buddy and Red Box knows your life. Even the Bubble Level app on my phone has location and " inventory data" (whatever that is) access.

I think it's important to note a few things about this incident that you seem to be over looking....

a) The aircraft sustained damage to one of the rotor blades enough to require replacement. Last price I saw was roughly $250K when all parts etc are added in.

b) thank God it landed without incident... it's a COMBAT aircraft designed to take some degree of a beating and still get the crew home. Do you think a lesser aircraft would have had the same outcome? Maybe but I'd say most likely NOT!

So laugh, cheer, jeer all you want but that incident is WAY too close for comfort for me and it SHOULD make every sUAS operator in the country (world even) at least uncomfortable.
