a drone with only altitude hold, will be at the mercy of the prevailing winds ,and it will also drift when the sticks are centered it is a good idea to experience this at some point ,as it helps when you fly a GPS drone ,that has lost its sats link , due to where it is being flown
to this end i fly a small none GPS heli that has no GPS ,its great for keeping my hand in and its nice to have the challenge ,of none GPS ,and the landings are the most fun

It's not a question and it has nothing to do with consumer drones.
It's an article about expensive inspection drones that work in environments where no GPS is available, such as inside mines or large steel pipes, containers etc.

There are some consumer level drones with non-GPS stabilization. The Yuneec Typhoon H series with RealSense have Indoor Positioning Sensor (IPS) mode that is active up to 5 meters AGL. It can also be used in areas where GPS is poor (tall buildings, canyons, woods, etc). It uses a combination of ultrasonic sensors and a Flow camera.

Funnily enough I am the same as you. I have 2 small non GPS drones which I use to keep my fingers nimble. The smallest one I call the "pig" as it's really difficult to keep it hovering in one place!! Great for beginners!

GPS is never denied. It is a radio frequency signal, and like an other, does not penetrate well into solids.

I think the OP was referring to sUAS that do not incorporate GPS for positioning assistance or those that allow GPS to be disabled by a command from the controller.

After reading the article, I believe by "GPS denied" they mean GPS unavailable due to environment rather than disallowed.

Phantoms and Mavics have downward vision positioning which does a good job when GPS is weak, as long as there's enough lighting and ground has enough of a pattern.
Tello has no GPS capabilities and it too does well with downward vision stabilization.
