Batteries leaking?

Hi there, my drone has been in storage for a while (just under a year) and I was going to start flying it today. I noticed some sticky substance, slightly dried, on 2 of the batteries. It looks like sticker residue, but I do not remember sticking anything. There is no smell or bulging. Any ideas if it is leaking/if it is safe to charge?

By slightly dried, I mean I can wipe it if I really try to. But it does not just come off easily

Take some 91% Alcohol with a rag and clean it. Its not from the Batteries unless it was a sticker. Charge them!

Curious... if you're sure you've never stuck self-adhesive labels to the batteries it might be wise to get a pen light and have a close look at the internal sides of the battery recess in the drone, just to see if there is any goop that might have transferred from the drone to the battery, or the battery to the drone.

Also have a close look at whatever the batteries were stored in.

What do the battery contacts look like? (drone airframe and battery)

I would advise using a fire proof battery bag when charging batteries that may have an issue as a safeguard against failure. Also I wouldn't charge unattended. Isn't it possible to look in the settings at the cell voltages to determine what condition they're in and whether it time to replace said batteries?

I've never heard of DJI batteries leaking. So, while anything is possible, it's probably very unlikely.

It looks like sticker residue
Indeed. However, that would be a very unusual place to put a sticker, as it would make inserting the battery into the drone very difficult, maybe even impossible.

Where were the batteries stored? Is it possible they were slid into a storage case with battery slots?

If these LiPO's get any kind hole in them (even a pinhole) they go crazy, so a leak is pretty muchoutofthequestion. They normally just puff up as they deteriorate. So my guess would be sticker residue. Clean it off with some Goo-Gone or mineral spirits. Charge them up & fly. Remember to store them at around 50 to 60% charge.
