Rather than a search light I am thinking as a locator

I have found that these lights mess with the sensors before take off, and put the drone into an uncontrollable state.

I think this a nice piece of kit in the right context. The enterprise Mavic light has a much bigger drag coefficient, but it is flown in that scenario with care. I guess it could even work with slats cut out to decrease the drag, but is that really an issue?

Yep it can, that's an aspect I really like. The immediately obvious draw back is you'd need landing extenders.
