I didn't, and don't, understand why avoiding a single button push prior to takeoff justifies so much fuss. I was wondering whether there was a larger consideration that I was unaware of. I guess there was not.

One of the reasons I swear by checklists is that forgetting things is easy, especially if you don't fly every day.

Some people on these forums are proud that they can get in the air in under a minute. I'm a plodder and just work my way through my checklist.

(Including the pre-departure checklist item where I make certain that I actually have an SD card in the machine before leaving home. Made that mistake more times than I should have.)
