Which side do you use, USB on the bottom or the side input of the Mavic controller?
Also does it make any difference with signal range?

Either will work, but I like to use the bottom port since it's easier to insert the cable. It's also easier to find regular USB cables if you're in need of a longer cable.

I always use the bottom port for connecting to a device.

I discourage pilots from using the side Micro USB for connecting to a device because it is a fragile port, and after enough times, it will break loose and then you are talking about a new 5-way switch board, $$$ to repair it. I use it only for charging the controller.
