I've read the manual, actually three times, and I know it says to not calibrate the compass unless you receive a message. However on starting DJI Go 4 and checking the compass calibration, it shows that the number one Compass is quite a ways off. The number 2 Compass is just fine. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks,
Marty

When you say it's 'off' , does the bar still show green?
No, number 1 compass slider goes from far left to about 1/3 towards right and I think was gray. The number 2 compass slider is green and only a little towards right.

Yup, if it's not green you should recalibrate in an open space somewhere and all will be well (hopefully)

Is your overall heading correct? That is, does the nose of your aircraft point in the precise direction as shown on the map and does it point precisely at the home point when you turn it around in flight? If the answer to both these questions is yes, then I don't think you have a problem. I've never calibrated mine, and it has been flawless, so far.

Mine has never prompted me to calibrate so I haven't calibrated. No problems and dead-on accurate.

I only do it if it tells me to just like dji has stated in the manual. Not sure why calibrate everything is the go to on the forum.

It isn't. But if you do happen to check the mod values and one of the compasses isn't showing a green bar, then you really should either calibrate it or try moving somewhere with less mag interference.
Must admit that I hardly ever do check, but the op did check it and noticed that one of them wasn't green. Simple as.

Because of random flyaway. If you'd tried to skip procedure on the P2 or P3 with no redundant compass you'd have crashed or had to go to manual flying mode (when it was available 3 years ago) to get home. Even then you'd be lucky. My P3 advanced compass failed and it flew totally whacky until I flipped to manual and nursed it home. The Mavic spoils you with its reliability which leads to complacency and eventually a stuffed or flyaway drone. Try flying a hundred miles from your usual take off spot and taking off with no calibration. You won't get far.

Fly safe... :-)

I calibrated compass first day out of box. Have not done it sense. That was 2 months ago. I have many flights 100s of miles apart. No issues. This has been covered many times over. Not looking to dig up an old thread.

In the "olden days" of drones, they told you to calibrate the compass every time you fly, so us old timers made it a habit. I still do the "calibration dance" every time I go out, it can't hurt. However, I don't do any OTHER calibrations unless DJI GO 4 tells me to. I did have some initial issues with control that calibrating the sticks took care of and back among the first shipments, others were reporting that you SHOULD do a stick calibration. That wouldn't hurt either... but has nothing to do with your compasses.

I have never calibrated mine and I live thousands of miles away from Shenzhen, China. Bird flies just fine.

Lol. Give it time. I know. Flying 38 years and crashed more hardware than I'd like to admit. You will have had to do an initial calibration anyway by default first time you opened the app to fly. Just give it time. [emoji1598]

It didn't prompt me for a calibration. If it's supposed to mine missed that one. Compass has been dead on accurate. I line up the arrow on the map and follow the green line right back home every time. I'm flying over my own land though, so even if the compass went haywire I could find my way back no problem.

You are right about crashing, that's for sure! I already have one crash under my belt. I tried to get fancy and ended up clipping the top of a tree. Hit every branch on the way down and landed in a mud puddle, of all the places. Lost all 4 props and broke the rear gimbal tab but other than that she's all good and still flying great.
