Hi,

Officially, the Mini 5 Pro is sold as a <250g drone, but most of them are a few grams over weight. Would you register it?

Put it on a strict diet first and see if it can reach its fighting weight! LOL!

Better yet, invest in a digital kitchen scale with a +/-5 gram accuracy that always reads 4 grams too low, and keep a photo of the drone sitting on your scale, displaying 249g on your person, on your phone, as proof that you weighed yours and it was in compliance. Basically, that's all you are required to do. You aren't expected to invest in an industrial scale that is more accurate.

Buy a few extra batteries, and keep the lowest weight battery that makes it compliant. The variance appears to be in the batteries.

Maybe return the drone for a compliant one.
There are sub 250g versions in the channel.
Many reviewers have one over and one under.

Do you ever check a consumer product to verify the weight or volume stated on the label is correct? If you see no need to verify a consumer product labeling quantity why would you think you have a responsibility to verify DJI's claim?

It will be interesting to see how Transport Canada classifies this drone. The current regulations are based on take off weight and if your drone weighs 250g or more then according to the regulations you are required to register your drone and have a Pilot's licence. Whether you choose to do that is up to you.

Unfortunately DJI has abandoned the claim that the M5P is a sub-250g drone. Unlike their previous Mini drones where they specifically call it out and make sure to let you know with this drone, you have the opportunity to qualify for "different" regulations. For the M5P, they simply state the weight and the variance but more importantly, they have called out the standard battery *and* the plus battery as both being subject to your local laws.

Good idea about the photo, I have a scale accurate to 0.01g, and it is easy to display only 249.5g or so. Cheers

Yes, if you choose to use the larger batteries you must register and obtain a Pilot’s licence, either Basic or Advanced.

I’m sure Transport Canada will eventually clarify the rules for the Mini 5 Pro. My hope is that they classify it as a micro drone when used with the regular batteries therefore not requiring registration or a license to fly it in Canada.

I’m not familiar with the US rules as they are bit different especially with RID. Others on here are more knowledgeable in that respect.

Yes, take the TRUST (you can take that test today, no need to wait) and register with the FAA. And....I think there might be one other item you need to complete, not sure.

Items weigh less at higher altitudes, so it may depend on where you live...lol
