I posted recently after my DJI Flip/RC2 would not let me log in to my account. I tried everything, then gave up and decided to just treat myself to a Mini 5 Pro fly more outfit. This of course meant I had a new RC2 controller.

But I'm still having problems. The setup worked OK (I haven't flown it yet because of the weather but the motors switch on and the controls all seem to work). However, I find I can't download maps. I checked the WiFi and the signal was 4 and 'fair' but when I go to offline maps, I just get that circling 'waiting' symbol.

Could this be due to the WiFi I'm using? I don't have broadband at home, or a smartphone with an Internet account, so I rely on public hotspots. Today, for example, I tried the downloading in Waitrose. In the past, when I've used drones where the software was on my tablet, I could download maps from Litchi and (I think) DJI from supermarkets and other hotspots with no problems, but maybe things have changed.

Do you need your own broadband at home to do this now? I'd hate to go to that expense.

Any advice would be welcome here. The drone is useless for my purposes if it can't use maps.

Any Internet connection should be sufficient, however you say you are using public wifi spots, these usually require you to open a webpage and fill out a form of some kind in order to connect to it, as the RC2 doesnt have a browser then this may be the issue.

Have you actually created a DJI account (head over to dji.com and create a login using the website) and logged into the RC2 with the user pass out of interest? this may be why you had issues with your Flip as all DJI equipment needs an internet connection to sign in and download any updates.
