Though I can understand a part of your frustration (quality issues) I do think that we have to reconsider the application of the restrictions. Though DJI is the company that applies them, they are not the ones that put them into force. Restrictions are put into force by the FAA (for the US) or other authorities. Looking at the way the US-(in)justice system works, I can very well understand that DJI does not want to run into a confrontation with the authorities about implementing the flight restrictions. This would, with a high level of certanty, lead to legal actions that will take many, many years and shiploads of money for DJI with an uncertain outcome. During the time the legal combats would be faught, they would be very restricted into their bussiness. Even stronger, the uncalculatable reactions of the residing government to anything that seems to be infringing on alleged US-rights and interests would probably mean, no US market anymore for DJI.
Considering that, I can understand DJI very well.
Aquestion that could (should) be asked in this context then would be, what and how this community can ad to either lift restrictions or create a system where exempts are possible. Legislation is, in a democratic society, the result of many groups getting involved and if you feel that the government is restricting you (or the droners as group more general spoken) beyond reasonable borders, the reaction should be organizing a platform that participates in the democratic process.
Once again, I do understand your frustration, I am frustrated up to a certain point about some rules here in Germany too, but what I (and as far as I have read your posts and comments I think you do to) try is to show that there are responsible pilots and create awareness that not everything you see in a hollywood production is possible for the simple hobby pilot.
