I can't unlock a Geo Zone (autorization zone) with my Mini 3 Pro. I keep getting a message like: Server error, try again in a few minutes (or something like that, don't remember the exact words).

The Geo Zone is Gnoss Airfield in Novato, Marin County, CA.

As far as I can tell, it is an "instant" unlock Geo Zone, meaning you can't unlock in advance, you have to unlock when you are in the area ready to fly.

I set up my cellphone as a hotspot, but kept getting the server error. I only had 4G (not even 5G) connection, and even though I could still connect the controller to my phone, and my phone to the internet, I still kept getting the dji server error message..

My co-worker was there and I tried to use his phone as a hot spot, (he uses a different cell network), but even after using his phone as a hotspot, I still kept getting the servier error.

Any advice is welcomed.

I never wait until I get into the field to try to get an unlock code. There seems to be a bug in the mobile app that causes this issue. I always apply for the unlock code from my PC. I've been where you're at and know the frustration.

Thank you for the reply.

The problem as I see it - and I might be wrong - is that this location REQUIRES an in-field / real time unlock.

I have logged in to the Fly Safe Website and requested an unlock. So you are saying I should be able to unlock the zone ahead of time (meaning, while still at home before heading out to the field)?

I have read through the unlocking steps here https://terra-1-g.djicdn.com/7a66f1...ock_guide/Unlocking Steps for DJI Fly APP.pdf and would like to know if this applies to the Mini 3 Pro.

If so, what / how do I impletment comment #4:

4. Please ensure the unlocking license is turned off when the drone is not taking off in the
unlocked area, or the return to home function will be affected

I don't know how to turn off the unlock feature.

Looking back at this, maybe the problem was that the controller wasn't "logged in" to my DJI account???

Thanks in advance for any other thoughs. Sorry if I am a bit scattered in my thiking today.

So far as I know there is no “on site “ requirement

Thanks for your reply. I must be confused then.

I see on the Fly Safe Website that Gnoss Field Ariport is colored Blue, and the notes below the map says:

Authorization Zone: Flying in this zone is limited. Unlocking applications are automatically granted

So I must have interpreted this to mean that it was only done in the field at the time of flying. I guess I am wrong about that then, huh???

If memory serves me correctly since approval is automatic all need to do is click the check box confirming that you understand and accept the responsibility of the flight

Thanks to everyone who replied.

So, it was mainly a case of first logging the controller in to my dji account. Didn't realized there even WAS a way to login the controller, and didn't realize I wasn't logged in.

After that, it was relatively straightforward to transfer the licenses to the aircraft.

Also, I did neet to update the firmware on the RC and the drone, so it was a good thing I logged in.

Thanks again.

Dumb question, but are you using a DJI RC and the wifi is not turned on?

This was causing me errors until I remembered to connect the DJI RC to my phone's hotspot.

Not a dumb question at all.

Yes, I did have wifi turned on, and it was connected to the mobile phone hotspot.

It was just that I didn't log in to my DJI account FROM THE RC that was causing the problem.

I returned yesterday and everything worked,
