Can't win for losing on this Android tablet situation.

Myself and others are using Tab A 8.0 without problems. Must be 2019 model running Android 9 Pie. My specific model number is SM-T290NZKAXAR but I think any starting with SM-T290 will work. In my case the DJI Fly app installed automatically when I synced the tablet with my Galaxy A70 phone but others have reported that they had to download the apk file directly from DJI website and execute manually instead of installing through the Play Store. -Reddit

The Android List. Supported Mobile Devices only means the devices that DJI has tried.
My three Huawei devices are not listed and work 100% Ok.
So have no hear of buying any of these. Mobile Huawei P Smart 6.2 inch screen.
Huawei Media Pad M5 8.4 inch Screen & Huawei Media Pad M3 8.4 inch screen Thumbswayup

Yes that list is like 8% and if I owned one of those models wouldn't use it for this. I don't see the Huawei here much I'm sure if I looked tho. I'll check them out. My thing is like this hub is just here on my desk for weeks, it's sketch. I'd rather have one charger even for three models would be sweet. It's things like that more than the devices.

For those like me who don't wish to pay an arm and a leg for an 8 inch tablet for your MA2 (or other), or those like me who simply refuse to buy Apple, I i bought a refurbished ASUS Zenpad Z8 (ZT582KL) from Amazon for $149. This is a 64 bit CPU, 3gb RAM tablet, and works fantastically smooth with the DJI FLY app.

Is this the same as the z8s? I have the z8s and it works but you have to turn off cache or else the live feed will be choppy. My experience.

I know man. I do not like Apple, never have. Never will I buy an Apple product. That being said....

....the power of the darkside is too great and I was unable to silence its beckoning to me.

See, this is why I love this forum. Because if you have an issue come up, chances are you aren't the only one...and you can get a lot of great info and knowledge. And even get a few laughs in the process. Good job team.

Turns out that my mom had an iPad Pro in her closet that a friend of hers won in a casino and just gave to her...true story. It had been sitting there collecting dust for a couple of years, so she was kind enough to give it to me. After loading DJI Fly, I grabbed my Air 2, connected everything up, and just like most of the apple users have said, it worked flawlessly. No lag...beautiful 10.5" picture. I've already engineered myself a mounting bracket (that I'm quite proud of, actually) and gotten a case to protect it.

Thanks to everyone for all of the info and responses...I read every single one.

Oh wow that's awesome bud!! Yeah but I went back and read it all too lol I look like a total goon haha! Glad they helped you sort it out. Well I'm gonna root the tablet to 64 bit OS see how it works with the 64 chip, if I brick it oh well..but if not, could solve the problem for some who root and just wanna device for the sport. Thanks for sharing, give your mom a hug and let her know you love her for not liking iOS! (:

Everyone else weighted in, so here's my two cents. Android loyalty runs deep. My biggest complaint was sunlight readability, after testing both OS's neither one is any good in direct sunlight. My second issue was text size on the "Fly" app.. A tablet will solve that problem, but then a cable and mounting hardware are a necessary evil, still worth it to have a bigger screen.

I don't think I've ever seen such a confusing tech issue regarding apps, ram, OS architecture etc etc? I've just about given up on the tablet option! I'm loathed to buy an iPad 5 mini, I don't like Apple products and hate the aspect of the mini. I'm just going to take a chance on a xiaomi Note 9 Pro?

All this rubbish with DJI only recommending, what seems like a handful of devices is frustrating and quite frankly infuriating! Seems to be some favouritism towards Apple, here?

At times, yes...but their very own crystal sky runs android, so who really knows? There are folks who have android tablets and the app runs flawlessly, there are folks who have problems with their android tablets. But the general consensus seems to be fewer issues running iOS.

The entire thread is a good read for anyone about to buy a tablet. Any comparison to others not running the fly app is null and void.

DJI hardly ever test new devices and rarely update their sparse list.
Many of the best flying tablets never appeared on DJI's list.

I do not think so? Here is info from Costco, where I bought it

hope that helps

will add, switching video transmission from HD to smooth made all choppiness disappear
It's not the same model ....T290...

Well I didn't have to root it, I just installed a 64 bit custom rom (Pie) without all the samsung bloatware, also a good usb c 2.0. (avoid 3.0) But I restored my tablet back..I use it with two others on Go 4 just fine. I only did it to remind myself it's DJI not my unsupported device. So if I can do it I can only imagine how easy it'd be for a team at DJI. For the few above who do have it working remember not to have it in optimized app list for the battery or the resources it needs will be limited to save battery. Also a good usb c, mine has always been cable picky I'm using a powerline II 2.0 usb c to usb c for my 64 bit android mobile . Only other thing is a hard reset or soft reset for older devices. It's a good refresh and I'm sure most Android users here may know all this, but I put it all up for one who may not. Imo we're problem solvers using android and in this case it points straight to the problem..DJI! If I can help anyone with a question feel free to DM.

I'm happy to tell You: DJi Fly , Mavic Mini (1) and Xiaomi Note 9 Pro (64GB) works flawlessly !
No special treatment, no roots, no extra changing configuration.
That's info I was looking for, just before buing new cellphone.
Maybe this could help - somebody/somewhere...

Got a Mavic Air 2 and been flying with a $59 Blu cell phone but have ordered the ASUS Zenpad Z8s as you referenced and hope it works, I am to old to see a small cell phone!
