I was keen to try the active track on my new Mavic 2 Pro with Smart controller. It really works brilliantly, never lost contact. Maybe helped by having dark clothing on snow. But disappointed that it didn’t follow me down hill, it maintained constant home point altitude down the hill. So I’m guessing the Smart controller has a disadvantage over using a smart phone with a barometer. Or am I missing a setting?

It may be different for the M2, but the MP will not lower elevation in a follow mode. Probably due to the likelihood of it not seeing an obstacle while lowering.

I know with my Inspire 1 Pro experience, u need to use an iPhone 6 or later or iPad Pro that have a barometer. Then the controller knows it’s altitude. The GPS altitude is not accurate so it’s ignored. But I’m guessing the smart controller doesn’t have a barometer.

While I haven't tried this for testing ALTITUDE, I've noticed when testing ACTIVE TRACK, that my MP2 will both "scoot around" obstacles, and DUCK UNDER branches. It will go down to ALMOST ground level, to get under a branch, and then rise back up after clearing the branch. It makes for some very interesting footage.
