Charging IPad mini 5 with controller

After great responses to another thread about which IPad mini to buy I purchased a Ipad mini 5 and have flown with it and love it. I flew in bright sunlight with no hood or shade and could still see the screen albeit it was a little hard to see. I know a shade should have been awesome.
My question is: is there any way for the controller to charge the iPad mini while flying. My IPhone would charge before the update. I have not tried it with the new update. I did notice that while my IPad mini 5 said not charging. Just curious if there is a setting or way to get it charged while it is connected.

At 4:25 of this video, the host said that it still charges with no option to turn it off.

He's reviewing the 1.4.8 FLY update for iOs just recently released.

I haven't had a chance to check it myself.

Maybe there's an option in the mini5 instead? ?

My iPad mini 4 charges from the controller until I launch the go fly app, it then looks as though it’s not charging if i switch back to the home page, I think the latest update has removed the option to charge or not as I can’t find it??!!
