Some of the areas around here are getting kind of boring flying, so a friend and I decided to take a ride out in the country. We found an area that looked quiet and peaceful with lots of open space. We launched our drones and was flying them enjoying the day. I exhausted my first battery and put in another. Shortly after I started flying my second battery, I hear my friend yelling at me to get in the SUV and look out for the cow coming down the street headed right for me. I quickly made room in the back of my friends Toyota Sequoia ready to dive in, when the cow made a hard left turn and went to the other side of the dirt road. I then hit the RTH on my drone from 250 ft
First time I have ever been that close to a cow and they was headed right at me.

I flew mine from from the top of a rock outcrop- surrounded by cows that chased me up there.

You also really have to watch your truck when you park it in the presence of cows, too. We had a cow licking incident at my work where a couple of my coworkers parked the rental truck in a meadow to do some fieldwork. When they returned to the truck, it was surrounded by a herd of cows. They were able to scare the cows away from it, but discovered afterwards that the cows had licked the paint down to bare metal all over the truck! The rental company said it was one of the funniest damage insurance claims they have ever processed.

I had to read to the end of that. I was wondering why you would want to partake in licking cows.

Unless you’ve taken them out to dinner first of course.

Cows are unpredictable and potentially dangerous especially if they think calves are threatened.
Also stampedes aren't just from corny westerns but a real danger to people and each other if they crush through a gateway or fence things will get broke.
In other words flying near cows is not a good idea.
It doesn't matter that it 'won't hurt them' they just see something unusual that sounds a bit like killer bees crossed with a hungry eagle.

I once had to drive behind one that wandered onto a state road. Fortunately it was late evening without much traffic. I reported it when I got home.
"get off the road you stupid cow" I thought.

Maybe you saw my post cows in my backyard. Cows have free range here in AZ and a couple years ago about a half mile from my house a cow wandered on to the interstate . A women driving an SUV hit the cow, she survived. A trucker pulled over to see if she was ok another truck hit the parked truck and a flying piece of metal hit the women and killed her. We've had several instance's of cows attacking people, so don't mess with them cows.

Oh I could quite easily come out with another wife joke here but I’m noto_O
I think ones enough per post;)

Well, they didnt exactly chase me out of anger, and they weren’t bulls. They were probably hungry and saw my white pickup and chased it from a 1/4 mile away. When I made it into the field (had owner’s permission), they sort of surrounded the rock outcrop I was on and stayed nearby while I was flying. They were pretty gentle, as informed by the owner, and didn’t mind the drone at all. They obviously thought I had food for them. :)

But you are right, I wouldn’t go into a field of cattle on foot or fly anywhere near them without knowing something about them. Definitely safer to enter on a horse or on the other side of the fence!

just a few words from an old man many years ago i worked on farms as a second cowman that was my title and i think that milking cows might be getting confused with what in the USA are known as steers ie shorthorn or long horn they are far removed from milking cows that generally are used to human interaction and when they approach people walking in the fields they are in it is mainly because they are inquisitive and think that the person is bringing them some goodies as in hay or licks or pellets which is what the farmer does i would not advise walking a dog through cows as they are not fussy on them and can see them as a threat the biggest danger from cattle is a fertile bull who will cause serious harm and even kill as they see a walker as a love rival who is trying to pinch their females i speak from experience as i have seen a person get killed by a bull which had to be shot as a result treat cattle with respect and caution and you will live to fly another day

WARNING : Not PC

Reminds me of the story of the young bull and old bull on a hill looking down on some cows grazing below them.
The young bull says, "What say we run down there and have our way with one of them."
The wiser old bull replies, "No, no, no. Let's walk down and have our way with all of them."

But then, I suppose, that would be a lot of bull.
