I've had a drone (Mavic 2 Pro) since 2019 when it was still quite relaxed to fly a drone. It was enough if you had some common sense :)
But I have flown my drone much less than I anticipated. One reason is not that obvious. There are so many forests in Finland that it creates a challenge where to fly (without losing line of sight) and what to record (how many photos do you want to take from trees?). We have lots of lakes of course but 99% of them have summer cottages and I don't want to trespass to private property or annoy those who are relaxing there.

So, mostly I have flown my drone during my trips to Iceland (wonderful!) and now recently in Madeira. Now when we are seeing the drone restrictions getting more and more strict, the fun of flying drones is reducing accordingly.

Anyway, nice to join this forum. Hope to be impressed and potentially share some useful info to others. I just made my first post in a thread about flying drone in Madeira. You should check that if you are planning to go there and fly a drone.

Thanks.

Greetings from Birmingham Alabama USA, welcome to the forum! We look forward to hearing

Hi, pepilot! Welcome to the forum, from Hauptmann in North Texas USA!
I've done a lot of traveling, but never to Finland OR Madeira. Both are on my bucket list. Though I live in Texas, I seldom fly here. I fly mostly in Northern California. Go figure! Anyway, glad to have you with us.

Welcome from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, USA. We have a Member's Map in the Upper Right of the Title Bar. Click on "Members" and then Click on "Member's Map…" Check it out and you might find some new flying friends.

Since you are not happy about filming from on high, try filming from down low… Fly the forest trails and valleys, look for interesting log falls and fly them… Follow streams and such. This all requires a lot more skill in flying your drone and it probably will mean you will have to hike along the trail to keep your drone in visual sight (if that is really important to you…).

If you are flying the forests and you are flying FPV, remember that trees shorten your range significantly and what use to be miles/kilometers of range may only be hundreds of yards/meters now…

Additionally, set your drone to hover rather than Return to Home (those trees will prevent a RTH from happening).

I hope this helps…

Fly Safe and Have Fun…

Hello Hauptmann,
thanks for sharing, good to hear that you do not fly either on home turf! :)
