The feds worry about Chinese-made drones sending data back to China.

I really don't get these "fears". As one of the comments at the end of the article notes, any such fears can be neutralized by cutting off access to to the internet.

I've been fighting this issue for a couple of years now. It turns out the the fears are mostly driven by technological ignorance, probably with a dose of lobbying by certain US corporations although no one is admitting that.

It does sound like economic lobbying. What makes this even more puzzling is that, according to the linked article, the US was working with DJI on a new firmware that would avoid sending data back to Chinese servers

DJI had been working with federal officials on a new drone design that would avoid sending any data back to DJI servers. The project seemed to be progressing well last summer, but Interior Secretary David Bernhardt cut it short last fall after conferring with US intelligence officials.
