From PR Newswire: "On the evening of September 26, 2024, Shenzhen hosted a spectacular drone show themed "City of Sky, Maybe Shenzhen" above Shenzhen Bay Park.

A total of 10,197 drones took to the sky simultaneously, setting two Guinness World Records: "The most multirotor/drones airborne simultaneously from a single computer (outdoors)" and "The largest aerial image formed by multirotors/drones"."

I really like the drone shows but, lord almighty, the things that have to go right and the cost just to buy the drones and then all the work involved in laying them out, charging batteries, loading batteries, etc.

Awesome to see but I wouldn't want to have to work in a show like that. (OK, I'd probably enjoy most of it)

I wonder who had to bind all those drones lol.
Find tiny tweezers for button.
Press and hold the bind button while inserting battery at the same time.
Place controller or computer in bind mode wait 45 seconds reboot and test.
All good? Great!! only 9,999 to go......

Oh man, can you imagine what those things would be capable of doing if used offensively?!

Because I have an evil mind, I can imagine.

I mean, like if you strapped a controller on each one and sent them into an enemy area. All the guys finding them would be happy to have a fully functioning drone.
They wouldn't suspect that the entire thing was contaminated with a communicable, incurable, disease

Back in the 1990s, some suggested that secret plans were afoot to stage grand celestial or supernatural events using advanced holographic technology to project images or messages in the sky from religious figures to extraterrestrial invaders. The images and messages would be tailored to specific cultural beliefs, in order to sow fear and panic either to unite or divide people or to strengthen or weaken existing social structures. I did not think it was technologically possible to stage a convincing celestial event or space invasion but after watching this video, I would say maybe. Very impressive show but spooky and disturbing at the same time.
