Close call at the coast

I’ve used this forum as a great way of learning what not to do and keep my drone intact. I’ve had the mavic about a year but recently had my first ‘**** **** ****’ moment. On the east coast near Auckland and the wind didn’t seem too bad, I thought the drone could easily take it. Got it up and all was fine, until I took it past the cliffs and over the sea. The mavic was just taken away and was useless against the gusts, I really did think it’d be fine. It just kept going further and further out to sea. To escape I had to bring it down to about 20 metres and then fly it harrowingly far north from my position to a beach where the cliffs dropped and then back inland, whilst jogging towards it (with terrible image transmission issues too). I was surprised just how powerless it was against the wind. I guess the moral of this one is to appreciate the strength of the winds that can be found at the coast 20+ metres above your head. Close call.

Did you have the correct reflex and switch to sport mode? It would take insane winds to prevent going forwards with that.
