UAV and windy apps both said ok so thought I’d test out new firmware release from today.

I got the below error. When it says “Aircraft unable to return to home automatically” Does this mean that it won’t even try to if gets disconnected or something? Or just mean that as it’s strong winds it MAY not be able to RTH as it’s strong winds? Needs rewording if it means that it only may not be able to RTH.

Strong wind warning. Aircraft unable to return to home automatically. Lower altitude immediately and return to home manually (Code: 30149)

errr thanks for help......

It means that it is detecting wind speeds that would prevent it from making it back to the home point at the current altitude or higher - if RTH is set higher.
Thanks, so it wouldn’t be able to make it auto RTH if needed to? Wouldn’t it even try though, is my question suppose. Would be worse as you say if RTH height was set even higher than it was flying currently.

But would it still try if had to, may struggle but may get out of the gust area and then re-connect to be able to descend?

It would try, but with excess with speed the drone likely will be blown backwards until battery level decline forces landing at the location of the drone at that time.

Thanks. Maybe just the interpretation of the wording (to me at least anyway), that it wouldn’t try.

When the warning popped up, it disappeared, so does this mean it ok now. Should it not stay on screen if warning still active, as if missed how do you know?

I have had this msg. several times and I was only 300 or 400 feet from home base and it got back with no problem. I can't guess what the programmer was thinking when this was written into the program, but I am guessing that there is some mathematics involved that says that the combination of wind velocity, height, distance, and power left, MAY prevent it from turning home. The other part of me says it is a CMA thing.
