I get that! But, take away the overclocking, video drivers are something we have to take, as well Antivirus.. to an extent. And I’ll admit, it’s more of a third party issue... Adobe, Nero, Office blah blah... that stuff quitting, and or restarting explorer.exe.
So, I’m also not a hardcore editor... sort of why I went with this unit. The MacBooks 15” are quads, and the 13” have intel video cards. The Mac Pro is not out, but if the IMac Pro is 4999, I can only imagine. I consider the mini, with the added video unit to help... but I hear that’s junk.

I also understand trying software.. But, that can also lead down a crap road with what I have currently. Imac also comes with IMovie.. which is a start.. lots of considerations. This Imac will allow memory upgrades, and this is what I’ll do right off the bat! Up it to the max, on my own. 8 gigs from Apple is 200.00. Surly I can do a little better.
Nero? That's an app that hasn't been updated in a couple of years. If you are basing your assumptions on older software, a new machine without the crapware installed by the OEM's should be pretty stable.

I build my own PC's for home, but I also buy off the shelf for my family. I order them directly from HP (or Lenovo) and specify the no-crapware option. They don't call it that, but you can get the machine with just Windows and nothing else. You would be amazed how well Windows runs when it has nothing with the name McaFee installed. Those comprehensive security suites just kill the performance and stability of the OS. The antivirus tool that comes with Windows is good enough.

Just out of curiosity, what did you hear about the Mini to indicate it is junk? I have a basic i5 Mini that's about a year old. I wouldn't use it for video editing, but it's a solid little machine. I have a loaded out Macbook Pro and it runs Adobe Premiere quite nicely. But I prefer A/V editing on my Windows 10 box, running more or less the same editing software.

No matter which platform you pick, get the most amount of RAM installed.

Ok, so quick reply... this is getting more off topic.
Nero was mentioned due to fact it was on, and head was not coming up with apps. Besides the point, without names, third party apps... they cause crashes. Today, and then.
Video drivers are provided by the manufacture! We are inherently stuck with, unless you install a card. Yes, uninstall the bloat will aid huge.
Guys, I’m not that dumb... just out of the loop on hardware. But I use windows 10 everyday, and admin for Harley... it crashes... a lot.

in the end, to conclude... I ended up getting my Imac for 1399 from 1799. I won today.
