I seem to stumble on conflicting information from various sources about dual native ISO on the Mini 5 pro:
  • It's always on
  • It's only on in AUTO mode
  • It's on in PRO mode if you set the ISO to AUTO.
Anyone have any idea what is the truth?

Overview of Dual Native ISO

The DJI Mini 5 Pro features Dual Native ISO technology, which enhances image quality by utilizing two analogue gain circuits. This allows for improved dynamic range, especially in challenging lighting conditions.

Supported Modes

Dual Native ISO is available in most shooting modes on the Mini 5 Pro. However, it is important to note that it may not function in certain specific modes.

ISO Values

The Dual Native ISO values for the Mini 5 Pro are as follows:
Below 400Low-gain circuit (100)
400 and aboveHigh-gain circuit (400)

This setup ensures optimal performance based on the selected ISO settings.

Benefits

Using Dual Native ISO can significantly reduce noise in images, particularly in low-light situations. It allows for better detail retention and overall image quality, making it a valuable feature for videographers and photographers alike.
In summary, the Mini 5 Pro's Dual Native ISO capability enhances its versatility and performance in various shooting environments.

Look up the actual sources for that though. When I look at the sources for what AI is telling me, that’s not what it is saying at all.

OP I think you are referring to the HDR like mode that leverages the quad Bayer sensor to give more dynamic range. Some people are calling this Dual Gain ISO or Dual Gain Output or even Dual Fusion ISO. This is different from dual native ISO so this may be the source of your confusion.

If Dual Native ISO is really what you mean I haven’t seen any source that claims the Mini 5 is dual native ISO. If you are referring to the HDR like extended dynamic range mode. Looks like its Pro mode ISO set to auto and auto mode but may be limited to DLog M.

Feel free to quote what you come up with your Ai version.
I don’t see any actual credible sources, official or otherwise claiming the mini 5 is dual native ISO.

And to clarify, it still might be, but we need a real source for it. AI is good to help point you in the right direction but it should always be fact checked as, for example in this case, I think it just made all of that up.

I find this whole dual gain ISO chatter in Auto ISO mode quite amusing. DJI claim these outrageous dynamic range figures on their latest prosumer drones with QB sensors equaling or even exceeding the best professional video cameras such as Arri and Red without even bothering to clarify how they arrived to those figures. I am all for amazing new technologies but without getting the white paper info directly from DJI it is all just speculation.
