. Aquaponics is a growing system where fish feed plants and plants feed fish. You normally have a decent size tank for fish and all growing containers are plumbed to the "sump" or fish tank. A pump pushes water through the plant grow system.

Wicking beds are containers that you water from the bottom and water wicks up through the soil - this preserves the nutrients longer in the soil since you aren't flushing through the soil from the top. The use of a fill tube allows water to go straight to the bottom of the wicking bed. "static" in this design means there is no pump nor continuous water flow. (and no fish)
