Hi , my newish mavic3 pro does not keep a consistent camera orientation when I do a hyperlapse. What I have been doing is rising/descending, putting the drone on cruise control as it ascends or descends a foot or so a second. then I just dial up a hyperlapse. There is an example linked, the camera seems to just kind of slide all over. I though about using a poi, but shouldn't the camera stay still when I am not touching anything and its on cruise? Using the 3x for this. Appreciate the input!

wonky hyperlapse

Quite a windy day was it ? It's usually wind that makes hyper-lapses go wonky but I suspect the 3X zoom isn't helping either ? Also note the thread under this one which mentions how when it is too dark for VPS to hold things extra stable GPS might allow a small amount of wayward drift to occur on the way up, and of course if the drone is moving slightly side-to-side as it rises there isn't much the gimbal can do to compensate for that.

The thing is it wasn't really that windy. I've got another hyperlapse. I don't know if I can find it now, but the gimbal seemed to just go willy-nilly. Almost like it completely lost its motor. I'm pretty sure every hyperlapse I've done none have come out looking good. I thought maybe there was something I was doing wrong.

First, that's a great scene and a nice bit of video.

The problem isn't as bad as all over, willy-nilly, and completely lost it's motor, but there is some significant wandering. It could be due to the gimbal moving or to the drone yawing and pitching slightly. Have you tried any hyperlapses with the drone hovering rather than moving with cruise control?

As an aside, if you can tolerate a little cropping, some video editing software offer image stabilization. I've used Resolve to fix some similar issues.

Nothing out of the ordinary to me, if you want good results set it to save the original pictures and render the hyperlapse yourself from those with software that'll stabilize that.

I think ill try just hovering or even on the ground if possible to narrow the issue. Thanks

Wonder if it’s possible to go slower than 1’/sec? .5? I don’t know if that’s possible.

It’s always bothered me that I’m a Mavic 3’s, or it seems most of the DJI drones, we can’t do better than one frame every two seconds. Specially for raw, which is what, every five seconds?

Not that this will help your stabilization- just wondering if you can get more frames for your time lapse to slow it down a bit.

Let's be realistic here. Most "normal" hyperlapses are done with either camera on a solid tripod to prevent any unwanted movement or camera mounted on a dolly slider to achieve shake free perfectly stable and smooth camera movement during the entire duration of the hyperlapse. The fact that we are now able to take hyperlapses with a drone is nothing short of a miracle. To expect perfectly smooth looking hyperlapse from a drone is simply foolish. Post stabilization is a necessity as is picking as windless day as possible. Any drifts and wobbles of a drone will cause a wonky hyperlapse. Laws of physics in action😉
