Thanks. Circuit boards dont usually give me a hard time, but the size of the solder joint for the motor wires plus the high melting temperature of the solder, make it hard work with a normal iron. With my Hakko, it takes 2 seconds for the solder joint to break free. With my old Weller, it just couldnt do the job without damaging the boards.

Thank you. I'm looking to buy a hakko as per your comment. I see them on eBay but what solder point should i buy for what is required here. They give numbers but no description ....like micro point is what you mentioned once. I do some micro work with a custom filed point. Ha
 
My favorite test tip for removing the motor solders from the main board is a chisel tip. It's my go-to tip for most bigger solders. You can use a pinpoint tip for the front LEDS wires, but youre doing a back, so wont need that.
