Took me mavic in a second flight today, full blast sport then normal with OA off. On both settings the gimbal started ok, then went crazy pointing down, then sideways in a very violent fashion, until it regained composure.

Is everyone experiencing this issue? Any idea if this will get resolved or do I need to contact DJI?

I had this happen somewhat yesterday for the first time. Windy conditions, a bit of sport flying just prior, and very low light. It took about 10 seconds for the gimbal to get straightened out. It seemed to be triggered by a fairly hard yaw.

There's your problem. It's a photography drone, not a race quad.

Was it doing the gimbal calibration? That happened to me once,

Gimbal reset in flight

or possibly jarred hard enough to hit against something, gimbal will make some abrupt movements, if you had the protective dome on and sports mode it can bang against it.

This clearly isn't normal or how the drone is designed to operate, you should be able to fly the unit however you want and not expect the gimbal to malfunction. Otherwise they should adjust the top speed etc so that it doesn't malfunction.

False. It has a photo mode and an FPV lock setting for the gimbal for a reason. There seems to be many folks on this board that think because it has a "sport" setting it can be flung around like an acro quad. It's not an acro quad. The gimbal is weak, fragile, poorly designed, and barely adequate for normal flight. Of course you're going to experience gimbal flip if you fly like a nutcase.

FPV Lock only locks the Roll axis (at least on mine). It doesn't lock the pitch axis, which is aggravating.

I'll refer to my other point then 'Otherwise they should adjust the top speed etc so that it doesn't malfunction.'

I've had a gimbal incident at least twice while flying normally. Indeed someone above refers to a video clip of it that I posted. At worst it was a bit windy - but I've flown in much worst w/o incident.

It happened to me again today, and I wasn't even moving, I stopped recording video, positioned for a photo, took one, then when into settings to take a 3 shot bracketed photo of the setting sun against the mountains, as soon as I hit the photo button, got a black screen.
I figured the gimbal was resetting, but my screen stayed black, switched to video mode, and could see my camera was stuck, it was almost all black, but I could see a little bit of ground to the bottom left. I was using the black plastic sun hood thingy, its like the DJI clear plastic bubble but with a large cut out, and opaque black.

I believe that when it was doing the reset, and gimbal calibration, it hit against the sun shade body and got stuck. Later on,with the power off, and manually moving the camera around, it seems to me that its at least possible, although not common, I never noticed it have an issue.

I brought it back in, while I was coming in, also got the gimbal overload error.

Looked at it and camera was stuck in down angle, removed the sunhood, the gimbal is against all the bands correctly and seated inside the anti-drop covers.

The first time my gimbal reset was after hitting video recording, seemed like 1-2 seconds, this time was instantaneous the moment I hit the photo button, so had nothing to do with sport mode.

I'm not sure if I'll continue to use the sun shade, I like it mostly for a little extra protection around the camera.

Any thoughts?
