Seems like a good thing. It says authorities, not anyone can shoot down a drone.
If it’s in an emergency situation, and a rescue helicopter cannot land, it’ll delay rescue until the drone pilot brings his drone down. Sometimes they are so oblivious, it could take minutes. It’ll be quicker if authorities can just shoot it down and get on with their job. Lives could be at stake.
We all have rights, but it doesn’t mean our rights is more important than others’.

I guess it sounds reasonable to shoot down a drone over a military base or nuclear plant --- but what kind of weapons are they going to use? When there was decompression of Payne Stewarts plane, they were prepared to shoot it down if it became a threat to a populated area.

During the early minutes of Sept 11 2001, Military aircraft scrambled from Otis AFB and were prepared to shoot down civilian jetliners if needed, but the planes even at super sonic speed were too late to intercept.

Wander into DC airspace without prior authorization and you WILL have a military jet or two off your wingtips in seconds.... they are always flying high cover. If you do not comply with their directions they WILL blow you out of the sky.

There are some blatant falsehoods in your post.

Military pilots do NOT have carte blanche to shoot down any civilian aricraft they deem is a threat. That kind of extreme measure can only come directly from the President --- and that's exactly what happened on 9/11.

According the Wikipedia article about the Payne Stewart incident, the Pentagon is officially on record as saying "shooting down the plane was never an option if it threatened to crash into a heavily populated area. We have no idea where that came from."

I do agree about DC airspace --- there was an incident in 2005 when a Cessna got within 3 miles of the White House before diverting to a Maryland airport by a Blackhawk helicopter and two F-16's !! That had to be a brown diaper moment for those pilots, plus they got to spend an afternoon in a windowless room being interrogate by FBI and Secret Service

not every officer is a perfect shot. so where are there bullets going to come down at? ( is mid air, or a city, town,etc a proper and safe back stop?)
forget the slippery slope. this is a off the cliff thing. if the courts do not destroy it in full, only proves that congress is living in there super privileged world.
