Did HomePoint Move in Flight when switched to Litchi from DJi-FLY ?

Homepoint had been moving arbitrarily during flights, 2 or 3 times.
Rather unnerving to hit RTH and have a drone head out to Sea !
Or head toward a thick forest !

Couldn't find anything about HOME changing arbitrarily on any forums.
(and "Dynamic Homepoints" are Off)

Then while looking at the KMZ file from one of the Litchi flights,
I noticed the telemetry home point was hundreds of yards away from Take off.
It was approximately where I had killed DJI-FLY (for probably unrelated reasons),
and started Litchi - during the flight.

Well, the other moved Homepoints seemed to match places visited earlier in those flights too.

Shazam.

Up to that moment I assumed HOME / Takeoff was set in the drone.
Didn't have a clue where "Dynamic Homepoints" were stored, if at all.

So my suspicion on why it the drone was headed off to nowhere land is -

* Litchi resets HOME to where-ever the drone is when Litchi takes control.

Makes sense if RTH location is in the App or the Controller - rather than the drone.

Can you share a flight log so we can see what you're describing?

That's not how things work and it should be very easy to confirm this with a little testing.

But it's not.
The homepoint is recorded by the drone and stored in the drone.
It has to be for the drone to be able to return home if signal is lost.

Your recorded flight data might help work out what happened in your case.

@Dasher , as you can see there are folks that what to help. Please provide the requested information and perhaps a logical explanation can be provided for you.

There's a similar thread started by JJB* on the DJI forum, though the changes he is seeing aren't significant.

That makes sense.
So modifying my original conjecture --
when Litchi takes over mid-flight, it sends that new position's GPS location to the drone.

No .. It's the drone's homepoint, not Litchi's.
It's recorded recorded where the drone was when it first received good location data.
Litchi doesn't make a new home point wherever the drone is when you switch to Litchi.
My android tablet is blocking me from getting the log files, & I've had little time to fix that.
If you are having trouble accessing the files, it might be because you haven't found the extra step you have to follow to get to the files?

When you power up the tablet you won't have access to the files.
But if swipe downwards from the top of the screen to get this:

Then tap where I put the red arrow to get this and select the Transfer Files option.:

Thanks, but its not a simple block, something dastardly changed system access on my android. Haven't had time to diagnose it yet.

Finally, had time to research, diagnose and fix my Android 11 "missing folder" problem for my flight logs. An unwanted Update blocked my access.
Now I have a bunch of flight logs I've never seen before. (Not using ES or any common file manager. Think it was "Files 6.1 By Marc apps & software" or "Solid Explorer" that did the trick.)

Think I now have the flight logs downloaded where home point moved during flight. Should be able to upload something in near future.

Here's one flight log in CSV (you have to rename it to .CSV from .txt) .

As you can guess - I didn't start flying it out over Ocean rocks
60 feet above the ground.

I'm now guessing that somehow the "Update Home" command got sent spuriously - or the aircraft firmware has a hick-up.
I certainly didn't do it. I've never executed that "Update Home" command or Dynamic Home Point setting at all, let alone while flying.

I'm still searching for the other flight log from the takeoff.

Interesting find.
In MSDK4 it wasnt possible to change the homepoint from the app.
In MSDK5 it is actually possible to update the homepoint to whatever you like at all times.
So it's technically possible in newer drones. On older it was almost impossible.

That's not a very useful "flight log" and does nothing to help understand your issue.
If the information in it is true, you never had GPS reception during the flight. and the entire flight was done 270 kilometres south of Esperance in Western Australia.

Your data doesn't show any home point or any indication of a change in home point

If you swapped flight control apps, you'll have to get one from the DJI app and another from the Litchi app.

Here are some instructions to help ... there are a couple of options.

1. Go to DJI Flight Log Viewer | Phantom Help
Follow the instructions there to upload your flight record from your phone or tablet.
That will give you a detailed report on the flight data.
Come back and post a link to the report it provides and someone might be able to analyse it and give you an understanding of the cause of the incident.
or
2. Just post the .txt file here
or
3. If you use Airdata, you can view the flight data on Airdata and post a link for the Airdata report
