DJI Airsense - does anyone know?

I'm about to buy my M2P and ideally would like it to have Airsense capabilities. Would hate to buy the batch before they start rolling out the hardware needed so to speak. With that in mind my brain is querying the following and hoping any pilots here can shed some light now that we a few months after the Airsense initial announcement.
1. Has anyone seen if M2P will be fitted with Airsense yet? I'm presuming it will due to the weight of the unit. But that is presuming, I've not seen anything written.
1.With the roll out from 2020 onwards does anyone know (or is anyone able to "guestamate" based on a bit of understanding/info) when the hardware will be built into the new models.
2. I'm presuming it will be built into models from X date and then activated through firmware update on Y date? If anyone knows or can give an idea on those dates would be phenomenal but perhaps someone has info?? Maybe??
3. Is there possibly anyway to retro fit the Airsense hardware needed via DJI to run Airsense on craft? I don't know the size or complexity of the actual hardware.

Thanks everyone. I just would hate to buy and find out if i had waited a month /two it would have had the hardware fitted.

While I do know its not bullet proof and I'm not looking to use it to replace VLOS, anything to add safety is a good thing in my book. I know a lot of choppers and small planes (here in South Africa basically all of them) wont have the tech in them, it would be useful to rather have the tech available when traveling in US and UK going forward over the next couple years than not have it on board? Would be prepared to future proof my self that little bit more if i could find out implementation info?

Appreciate the input and maybe this starts some good thoughts for others. Any tech based around safety can only be a good step forward, even if it isn't in all manned craft ... it only needs to be in that one to assist and avoid an incident.

Thanking you.
Allan

You kind of already answered your own question. The M2P will not be fitted with AirSense since it was released prior to 2020.

Per this news release from DJI:

"All new DJI drone models released after January 1, 2020 that weigh more than 250 grams will include AirSense technology, which receives ADS-B signals from nearby airplanes and helicopters and warns drone pilots if they appear to be on a collision course"

See more details here:

FWIW you can easily build your own ground site air-sense to run on your mobile device or tablet (Or RaPi or similar) if you need it that much. Cost will be in the region of $30.
Given the drone is always close you dont really NEED it flying for coverage as range isnt an issue.

The other problem is in most of the world (including the US currently) not everything is fitted with ADS-B. The types of traffic that arent fitted are light aircraft, helicopters, military aircraft and so on - the very types operating at altitudes where a drone conflict is likely so its not THAT useful.
Yes the US is making it mandatory but (i) rollout is slow and looks like being delayed and (ii) it isnt going to happen for a few years.

So currently airsense and ADS-B generally can tell you if something for sure IS in your area but it cannot tell you with certainty if there is nothing in your area.

OK, mmmm, dang. I understood it as built after that date. But understanding your quote now makes it sadly clearer.... models like the still to be designed and released "Mavic 3, Phantom 5, new whatever whatever" only will be fitted with it. Not just those manufactured after the date in 2020.
That makes me sad ? but will go ahead and order my M2P then now, and that makes me happy :p. Not going to last holding out for another year just for a non existent drone yet. Need to get me in the air Thumbswayup

So, I spose next question is whats the new rumored drones to be released next year now ?

Mavic iterations seem to be a 2 to 2.5 yearly release so not impossible mavic 3 by Q4 next year. Then again, who knows. Phantom is probably dead.

I keep see this post; ADS-B receiver...you can make your own for $30.00

Can some please explain to me how to make my own?

what about Air Sense? technology...is there a way of creating my own for my DJI MP2?

I guess I am trying to see if I can create my own Air Sense for my drone, in case DJI does not do it.

mavic Pro 2

You don't create it for a particular drone, you create a ground station using a software defined radio. I built 2 of them for about $10/each, but I didn't mind waiting for them to arrive from China.

Lots of info on the web. Start here:

I received one of those about a week ago. I am not sure what to do with. I spend $20.00

I see it now...but how can I use this to fly my drone, if the unit if not attach to my drone.

It lets you know if there's a plane in the area. It doesn't matter if the receiver is in the drone or on the ground.

From that remark, do you think the new drones with it fitted will have it installed in the drone, or in the handset to control it? It would make sense to put it in the controller and save the battery power and weight from the drone, it seems to me.

I am still using my Air until some semblence of order is restored. I am half inclined to buy the 2 Pro for the camera, but I am just holding fire to see what transpires. I shall hang on to my Air for the time being.

I think it should be in the drone. From my limited experience, ADS-B is dependent on line of sight so if you want to pick up a low flying aircraft coming over a nearby hill, antenna height will be important to being warned as early as possible.

Edit to add that in my area, low flying aircraft are seldom broadcasting but I'm guessing that will change in the near future.

Thanks for the extra info. I am still a learner at this game. Editing is the next nightmare.
