Does anyone know what will happen if you connect your Mavic to your phone and connect the controller etc., but turn off cellular data and keep WiFi on. Like have the WiFi setting on, but have the cellular data turned off. Will you still be able to see the GPS location if the Mavic or will the map just say unavailable? I’m kind of confused which GPS actually connects to your phone and shows where you/the drone is. Or will the app not let you fly the drone?

Your Mavic will still have a GPS lock and I believe your phone will as well but the map will appear blank white unless you hook up to a WiFi network for Internet. The Mavic has its own GPS system so all the phone GPS is needed for is if you want to use the "follow me" feature or reset your homepoint. -CF

You can use a cell phone with GPS without a cellular connection. Actually, you dont really even need the WiFi.
I sometimes use an Iphone 6 that the sim card is removed from, I run it in airplane mode so all cell, wifi, bluetooth is disabled. Still have the maps, and the phone doesnt create any RF interference.

I use the moverio glasses with my mpp. I know I don't pay for a data plan so I'm certain the Android device does not have cellular data at all. It uses the WiFi to download what it needs but I don't need a WiFi connection to fly and everything works fine.

The current location of the Mavic is reported by the Mavic's internal GPS receiver. That data is being sent back to the remote controller even in cases where you cannot see the map in DJI GO or are flying with just the remote controller.

You'll need to cache the map images in DJI GO in order to see the map at times when your mobile device is not connected to the Internet. See more details here.

You can fly the Mavic without an Internet connection on your mobile device. It'll even fly if no mobile device is connected to the remote controller.

So the Mavic will still appear on the map and you can still see where it is currently?

The Mavic will still appear on the map but the map will be blank unless you first load it, than turn cellular data off.

The map images will only load in DJI GO if the images are cached on your mobile device or your mobile device is connected to the Internet.
