I recently purchased a DJI Mini 2 Fly More Combo for $200 CAD from a seller. While the deal seemed great initially, I ran into an issue after bringing it home. The drone shows a “gimbal stuck error 40002.” I tried cleaning it with compressed air, but it didn’t resolve the problem.

The seller assured me that the drone had never been crashed, and to be honest, I don’t see any visible signs of damage. When I try calibrating the gimbal, it gets stuck at 10%. The gimbal does perform the startup motion (the little “dance”), but there’s no movement afterward.

I’ve heard that this issue might be caused by a damaged ribbon cable inside, so I’m considering having it checked out. Was this a good deal, or should I cut my losses and try to return it to the seller? This is my first drone, and I’m feeling a bit lost about what to do. Any advice would be appreciated!

Probably the ribbon cable indeed, mine broke essentially just being in the bag...
If you have some repair skills or are feeling adventurous you can find spares for about $10 and replace yourself, it's a very delicate process though.

A lot of patience and a good supply of Makers Mark is what is needed for the ribbon cables lol Before you take it apart try moving the gimbal carefully with your finger, If you feel resistance or grit thats your problem. I will say that gimbals can be tricky and you can dump lots of money into one trouble shooting it! I would replace the cable or cables for sure...... Do it carefully!! or you will find yourself with a new set of errors.

Send it back. You can buy plenty good Mini 2 or 3s for 300-350 with controller. Unless you do not have anything better to do with your time . The minis are hard to work on like a smart phone

For what it's worth, I just sold my Mavic Mini 2 in less than 24 hours of listing on this forum. Prior to the sale I had a problem seeing the image on my iPhone. I sent it to DJI Care Refresh ( I had 2 services available). They found nothing wrong and checked it out and sent it back to me, and it worked fine. I sold it immediately. Bottom line, I'd send it to DJI for the best and most reliable service and quick turn around. The cost can be quoted by a phone chat sometimes.

I would also try to see if there is anything obstructing the gimbal such as sand granules (use an air pressure can spray) and visually check for any obstruction.
