I have had my DJI mini 3 pro for just over 2 years now and at the end of last year it malfunctioned and crashed. I had it on video so I'm sharing it with you guys.

Yep. Flew it right into a bush.

What malfunction? As said above that was a controlled crash into those weeds. You were "flying the screen" that can get you into trouble pretty often.

Sport mode by any chance? If so: that'll be no O/A sensors and a braking distance at least three times longer when you just loose the throttle instead of applying hard reverse pitch.

What do you mean flying the screen?
You know when you are flying and you let the control sticks off how it brakes and stops, when you saw me step out the way I let the controls off.

kinda what Mavic3usa is saying, but I think you were watching the screen instead of the drone and forgot about the weeds beside you. At least thats what it looks like to me. the brake aint gonna stop it if you are flying fast.

I was watching both the drone and the screen.

What you did was let go of the controls.

What you SHOULD have done is very quickly apply full reverse thrust and you might have saved it - or maximum climb.

It simply doesn't stop that quickly if you just 'let go'.

If you're flying at full speed in sports mode and let go of the sticks you'll need far more than 4m space for the drone to stop in. I've not specifically measured it, but I'd estimate closer to 20m for the drone to slow itself down and stop. If you tap the "home/pause" button it will do emergency braking and stop quicker as this allows the drone's tilt to go beyond the normal 30deg, and use much more of it's thrust to decelerate.

If for some reason you'd lost GPS/VPS the drone could go into "atti" mode which is much more like flying and FPV style drone where control is much less automated. The drone won't brake by itself, leaving you to do all the braking yourself by applying backwards stick for just long enough to bring the drone to a stop. This isn't a malfunction, but rather the intended behaviour of the drone in the scenario where conditions prevent it from getting positional data (eg GPS/VPS) It can very easily catch pilots out, especially ones who haven't flown without position hold (eg typical FPV flying).

edit: An analysis of your flight log will determine if GPS/VPS was inactive at the time, or if there were any other issues that may have caused the unexpected behaviour.
