Hello all. I was testing the Mini 3 Pro obstacle avoidance, it failed and dropped to the floor, about 6ft high, very slow. After this I have a Gimbal Motor Overload error. It wont calibrate Gimbal past 85%. No cracks, not signes visualy at all. The Gimbal will not turn left in Auto and or manual calibration.

Im hesitant to send ot off to DJI as its not under warrenty or plan, and can repair it if I know where best to start. I have undone it, stipped gimbal down, removed cable. Whats it most likly to be, cable or Yaw motor?

The problem with DIY gimbal repairs is
1) not knowing what is damaged and if there is more than one damaged part. Consequently you may end up making several repair attempts and part purchases. Also there may be alignment marks that you miss.
2) parts may be electronically pair/matched to other parts and replacement parts may upset that pairing.

In truth I would be inclined to send it in, DJI prices seem reasonable.

After you pay a site to match the numbers on the new gimbal for you, You may as well send it DJI. You can repair it yourself BUT that is tricky you may end up buying stuff you didn't need to. Did you roll the gimble in your fingers and feel for any resistance?
If you are new to Drone repair, Don't make a gimbal your first adventure. If someone brings me a drone with gimbal damage I will help them fill out a ticket to send it to DJI. You are NOT gonna save money on such repairs. Its helpful to know how to fix it on the fly BUT to save money not so much.
Send it to DJI the price will be worth not doing it yourself.

Could be both cable and gimbal motor issue. The time and money required for self repair is probably equal to or more than what DJI would would cost.

Thanks for your reply guys. I have brought a cable as the cheapest, if that dont work Il send it off. I dont want to be charged for an enter gimble, this could cost not far off the price of a used drone with RC controler, mine was a fly more kit with hard case and RC £450.

I have seen the videos you shared . Seems cable is fine .
May be One of the motors from gimbal has gone faulty .
Can you share any video of gimbal while turning on the drone

The videos I shared are the only ones, iv since got the Gimbal stripped down. When moving the drone while on the gimbal seems to keep up in doing its job in most positions but it cant turn left at all from the YAW motor. Also in general the footage looks very unstable with the odd camera jerk.

There is no resistance from any motor by hand, seems to rotate fine, there is small step like feeling on yaw that's consistent with other motors on the props.

This is not about motors only . There are hall sensors in motors . If any hall sensor is damaged then also you will get the error . Jerks can only be removed once 'gimbal motor overload' goes.
Professional calibration can remove

DJI makes it simple and is very reasonable. Just depends where you want to spend your time, tinkering or flying. : )

Iv heard positive things about DJI service, but also that they replaced entire parts like a whole Gimbal with camera when only one part was broken. Paying out in some cases £300 or higher for a repair on a drone that can be come close the a used purchase of the entire fly more kit with RC remote for a repair is steep. Id rather not mess with it, but at what cost?

They ALWAYS swap the entire drone. They do not lovingly heal the sick pet, but rather they swap it with a tested good unit and turn it around super quick. Not a bad system!

Hi all. Update to this thread. I got a new Gimbal Cable as of was the cheapest point of a self repair and it fixed the problem. The Over load error was gone after I installed it. It ask for a Gimbal Calibration in which I did and it completed it. Il filmed me installed it and doing a test.

Was this unit a brand new one or second hand ?

DJI will normally give you a quote for repairs, I would be sending it to them.
