Hi everyone,

I’ve been experiencing a waving/jello effect issue with my Mini 4 Pro, particularly noticeable in vertical videos. The problem becomes more apparent when zooming in, whereas my older videos (even when zoomed) don’t show this issue.

Some additional details:

  • I had a crash about a year ago and replaced one of the gimbal dampers with an aftermarket part from AliExpress. Now one of gimbal is original and other is Aliexpress one. That may be unbalance reason. But, in my home trials, there is no issue at all even when zooming much.
  • I suspect this might be the cause, but I’ve also seen others report similar issues without any gimbal replacements.
Has anyone else faced this problem? If so, how did you resolve it? Any insights on what could be triggering this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

The jello effect is usually created by vibrations finding it's way to the camera...

So either something became damaged on the drone causing the motor rotation generate more vibrations than usual or the gimbal damper you replaced can't isolate the camera from vibrations properly, really think it's as simple as that.

Thank you for your contribution ! I noticed that this jello effect increased after i replaced one of gimbal damper. Original damper is one side and Aliexpress one is other side. That may be the reason of unbalancing. I gonna replace the other one with also Aliexpress one as well. I gonna also check the propeller situations carefully. I hope these will solve. I will add update here.

I agree with the other poster - I think the different damper parts are the root of the issue. The third party part may not be of the same spec as OEM, even if it’s visually similar.

Unfortunatelly, i replaced other one also with Aliexpress part and nothing changed. Still vertical videoas are wavy and horizontal ones are not even noticable. I replaced also propellers with newer ones. I gonna use ND filter to hide it by applying lower shutter ranges. Some of guys on internet say ND filter is much beneficial for masking the problem. At least i can mask this way

Update !

I was getting a noticeable wobble or jello effect when shooting in vertical mode, especially at 3x zoom. After trying various things, what finally fixed the issue was using an ND filter to properly control the shutter speed.

By following the 180-degree shutter rule:
  • For 4K 60fps → I set the shutter to 1/120
  • For 4K 30fps → I used 1/60

With the ND filter reducing the light, I could use these ideal shutter speeds even in bright daylight, and the jello effect disappeared completely. The image became much smoother and more stable in vertical mode. It is just a masking the problem but who cares, image is now highly stable and smooth. I saw most of drone vibration problem on internet solved by this method.

So if you're seeing this kind of wobble in vertical video, especially under bright conditions, try adding an ND filter and dialing in the right shutter speed — it made a huge difference for me.

... and if a uniform motion blur isn't a major concern & if a manually locked shutter speed feels too limited in changing exposure environments when videoing... you can use a auto shutter+ND as the ND filter slow down the shutter in general, not only when you set it manually to 1/120sec or 1/60sec.

Ah yeah, that's not a rule of course. But main point is to keep shutter low as possible. So ND filter is needed for doing this . By this way, wobble or jello minimized, it is actually masked. A solution. By the way, i get best result on 4K, 30 fps and 1/60 shutter, just bcs lower shutter speed. But 4K, 60 fps and 1/120 is also okay. I couldn't solve the problem mechanically but optically.
