Hi all, I am wanting to use an old spare iPhone I have got lying around to fly my air 2.do I need a sim card in it. If not are there any disadvantages at all to not having a sim installed in the phone.

The only purpose would be to have an internet connection to load the map. But you don't need the map to fly. Also, you can pre-load the maps at home on wifi if you so choose. Plus if you check the cache maps option in the app, if you have been there before you get a map.

But maps 'aint worth subscribing to a sim card service for. Works fine without.

Your a star. Many thanks for the info

You do not.

Hi, I stand corrected. Pre-loading maps works on the GO4 app, but clearly the DJI Fly is currently different in this respect. But the main point of what I said to the original poster is that you don't need cell data in order to fly.

I do note that in a couple of other threads people are saying you can pre-load Google maps before you leave home. Am I correct in thinking that DJI don't use Google maps and they haven't supplied the option to use them for some years?
